Assessment of drinking water from storage tanks in Federal University Dutse Nigeria
نویسندگان
چکیده
The study assessed the quality of water obtainable in six (6) storage tanks present male and female hostels on Federal University Dutse campus. Physicochemical analyses; temperature, pH, turbidity, electrical conductivity, nitrate, phosphate were conducted using standard methods. Presumptive, confirmed, completed tests employed to determine total fecal coliforms from samples most probable number (MPN) technique. Generated results parameters compared with allowable standards Nigerian Standard for Drinking Water Quality (NSDWQ) World Health Organisation (WHO). Results obtained physicochemical status indicate that all measured conformed NSDWQ WHO permissible standards. this also show presence bacteria which may constitute a health risk amongst students drinking it. It is therefore recommended pumped stored these should be adequately treated. Keywords: Coliforms; Fecal; tanks; quality; water.

متن کاملThe effectiveness of large household water storage tanks for protecting the quality of drinking water.
Many communities along the US-Mexico border remain without infrastructure for water and sewage. Residents in these communities often collect and store their water in open 55-gallon drums. This study evaluated changes in drinking water quality resulting from an intervention that provided large closed water storage tanks (2,500-gallons) to individual homes lacking a piped water supply. After the ...

The gross beta radioactivity of water samples were measured using proportional gas counter. The result show that the gross beta radioactivity in mo...
متن کاملRadioactivity in some sachet drinking water samples produced in Nigeria
Background: Activity concentrations of 40K, 226Ra and 228Ra were measured in some sachet drinking water samples produced in Nigeria. Materials and Methods: The measurement was done by using high-purity germanium (HPGe) detector (Canberra Industries Inc.). The measured activity concentrations for 226Ra (U-series) and 228Ra (Thseries) were used with their ingested dose conversion factors ...
